ACA National Fall Rally hosted by the SoCal Chapter

The Palms RV Resort, Yuma, AZ

Have you heard?  We have changed our National Rally location to the beautiful RV Resort in Yuma, AZ!  Bob Clapper has been working fast and furiously finding us the best location to host a fantastic rally.  Here’s the link if you want to check it out:  www.yumapalmsrvresort.com

We will be partnering with RV World – Yuma, who have been so supportive to the ACA in recent years.  We will have a lot of flexibility with this resort, plus The Palms RV Resort staff will also be very supportive and helpful while we prepare and during the rally.  All in all it’s a win/win situation and we will count on your support and attendance as we put on a fabulous National Rally in 2012.

President’s Message – October 2011

Western Regional Rally – Las Vegas, NV

Wow!  We are still on a rush after attending the fabulous Western Regional Rally at the Las Vegas Motorcoach Resort.  As you may recall, Pete & Eileen Smoot, Mary Wilson, Debbie & Joe Darby, George & Nancy Borecky, Pat Adams, Terry Bennett, and Laura Bruno pulled this rally together with a wing and a prayer.  It was a resounding success and it’s a shame if you missed it.  With no monetary support from Fleetwood, this small group of industrious and dedicated people put together a first class rally at a 5-star resort for a phenomenal price.

Monday, upon arrival, the staff at LVMR greeted us warmly and efficiently.  In fact the staff at LVMR turned themselves inside out to be hospitable.

The first night, after enough appetizers to keep us full until breakfast, we raised over $1,900 for the ACA scholarship fund.  It was a 50/50 raffle, but the winners, Roy & Phyllis Nichols, generously returned all of the money so that it would benefit the fund.  Huge thanks Roy & Phyllis!

Speaking of appetizers, a huge thank you to Debbie Darby for cooking and/or coordinating the food for this rally.  This was a huge undertaking, and even with the help she got, a great deal of the thanks goes to Debbie for masterminding our meals!  And while I’m on the subject of food, I cannot forget to mention the Pete Smoot biscuits and gravy breakfast we had.  Yummy!  (By the way, Pete hates it when you call his food yummy – but it was so yummy!)

RV World of Yuma brought in several beautiful coaches and at last count they sold 2 – an Eagle and a Revolution – all stunningly beautiful.  RV World contributed monetarily to the rally and provided some fabulous prizes.  RV World is certainly becoming a great partner and we are happy to support them.

Terry Bennett was in charge of our Members’ Bazaar.  Those of us who are artsy were invited to show (or even sell) our wares at the bazaar.  It was fascinating to see some of the great artwork that comes from our talented membership.  It was so much fun, it looks like something we need to include in our National Rally.

Eileen Smoot, the master of all things games, put together quite a game night that kept us sitting on the edge of our seats and laughing (or more specifically LOAO).  Through a process of elimination, Chip Aiken was the evening’s winner.  The two final games required the use of crepe paper and panty hose – you kinda had to be there (but I’m still laughing!).

Debbie Darby conducted a Splendide Washer/Dryer seminar and Leslie Speziale and Laura Bruno showed us how to cook in our RV.  Both provided very helpful and usable information.

On a slightly dreary, rainy day, the Pet-A-Palooza was a big success with about 20 dogs and their parents.  Earlene Reynolds’ Jack Russell Terrier was the definite winner of the bobbing for hot dog event, but let’s hear it for Maggie Smoot who prior to the hot dogs being tossed in the pool, took a leisurely swim in the pool.  Patsy Mosley’s Australian Shepard won the barking contest, and new member Mike Snow guessed exactly how many treats were in the treat jar.  Rain or not, it was a fun event.

The day of the gala final dinner and dance, Pat Adams and a band of kitchen helpers hosted the ladies’ lunch.  I don’t remember what we had for lunch, but I sure remember my cabana boy – Dom – who served at our pleasure.  Kristine Wilson was ready to take him home!  There were certainly a lot of laughs, good times, and plenty of prizes.

Heaps of kudos to Pete Smoot for putting on a fabulous event where there was a void.  Great job Pete!

News on the National Level:

We did something a little different at the Western Regional rally – who knows, it’s probably illegal according to Roberts’ Rules of Order – but we combined the SoCal Chapter meeting with the NorCal Chapter meeting.  We only had a limited amount of time to conduct the meeting, so it seemed like a great way to kill two birds with one stone.  What did you miss from our meeting?  Well it’s time to get cranking for the Fall 2012 National Rally we are hosting.  In case it is not on your calendar as yet, plug in October 2 – 6, 2012 and put that time period on hold so you can attend our gala event.  In order to be prepared for this rally Norma & Jerry Dunn, assisted by Art & Sandy Bridges will be holding a work rally February 10 – 13.  Even though I am using the word ‘work’ it will still be a lot of fun – hey!  we’re a fun group, so join us and help out as we put together some good times to come!  Details to follow, but it is scheduled at Lazy Days in Tucson, AZ (the former home of Beaudry’s RV).

Bakersfield – November 3 – 6, 2012

Just around the corner is the Bakersfield rally.  Our hosts are Ken & Cheryl Brummett and Ken & Betty Tilley.  Bakersfield RV Resort located at 5025 WIBLE ROAD | BAKERSFIELD, CA is a luxury resort with over 200 manicured spaces, a club house, a restaurant, and a media room.  Hope to see you there November 3 – 6, 2011.

Hope to see you in Bakersfield.  But if not Ben and I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and a warm and fuzzy holiday season.  Please send good thoughts to our members who are having health challenges and remember those serving our country!
